Inside “Lockibird Once Told Me So”

Eight tales for the rocky road

Swim to the bottom of the ocean with Grandpa Turtle, fly into the realm of the Lockibirds, drift with the fallen Moon, and battle the Mischievous Pixie: eight unconventional tales of self-acceptance and quiet courage.

Tale I

The Secret of the Shiny Ocean

“If only I did not throw away my own shell!” said young Grandpa Turtle.

Tale II

The Little Giraffe and the Zebra

“You’re so kind!” Zebra was touched, moving to lead Little Giraffe to a cage decorated in the name of kindness.

Tale III

The Lockibirds

“However you live, it’s equally idealistic,” Lockibird said indifferently.

Tale IV

The Drifting Moon

“Ha! Another Moon. The cycle never ends, does it?” said an old, wise scholar by a river.

Tale V

The Son of Mr. Beer Belly, Bire

By the end of the day, Bire sang, “Life is bittersweet, yet a feast.”

Tale VI

The Elephant, Papa Obu

In the wild, the land was never a home; family was.

Tale VII

The Star’s Child, Etoile

One boy hid his glitter in dull mud; the other collected glitter to disguise himself as a child of the Star.

Tale VIII

The Mischievous Pixie

The cost to get your way across another’s rolling wheel is high. How do you pay me, Your Highness?

Botanic Fairies

Every teardrop forms a leaf in the fairy garden.

A little boy named Bubbles bursts into tears when he bumps his head jumping on his bed. But in his dreams that afternoon, he visits a fairy garden where all kinds of tears crystallize into richly colored leaves and the botanic fairies take care of every unique tear on the trees.

Wandering through this magical world teaches Bubbles that feelings are multilayered and beautifully mixed, and that complex feelings deepen our life experiences and make the fairy garden blossom.

Midmost Me

We are all work-in-progress, unique art pieces.

This is a story about Midy. She has a medium build, wears medium-sized clothes, and performs fairly in the middle in all aspects of life. She knows there is no need to constantly compare herself to the best or the worst. Being herself gives her the ability to make her own way in life and teaches her compassion for everyone, including herself!

Through this book, the author wants to remind readers that we deserve our kindness and compassion for ourselves because we are all work-in-progress, unique art pieces.

The Meaning of Lockibire
An ink drawing of a house — a home

The name Lockibire is a tribute to two disparate roots, defining an existence caught in a ceaseless rhythm between bumping their head like the tethered lockibirds, and finding the profound, earthly solace of Bire while sipping the tavern’s gold.

Giving Back

Every page turned a little kindness outward.

As a beautiful extension of this journey, all revenue generated from these publications between January 7, 2023, and April 16, 2024, was donated in full to Children International.
